Yucca, November 2013

How $15 Annual Membership Benefits Your Household
•  When neighbors aren’t following City Code and covenants or keeping their property looking nice, we help.
•  We organize community events: the annual picnic and, soon, members-only lawn sale and social events.
•  We represent Skyway interests at the city and county levels: Bear Creek Regional Park easement issues, City Council, Council of Neighbors & Organizations (CONO), FireWise.
•  We are conveyors of information, not enforcers of rules or laws.

It’s not too late to pay your $15 annual dues to become a Skyway Association member. Use the membership form on reverse side.
Currently we have 306 members at $15 per household (see address label below for your membership status). This income is not sufficient to cover (a) printing and mailing the Yucca to 1,126 residents ($432 each quarter), (b) our annual picnic with music, (c) association liability insurance, and (d) ancillary expenses. Our goal is to save money, not print the Yucca, and post updates online at skywayassociation.blogspot.com. We will vote on this matter at the February annual meeting.
If you do not have Internet access and would like to have updates mailed to you, call Andrea Owen at 719-313-3883 or have someone email andreaowen@comcast.net.

A Word from Ed Alyn, Board President
Presiding at the September board meeting was my last official act as Skyway Association Board President. It was a great ride, and I feel that much was accomplished during that time. Thank yous go to the board and committee members. All are volunteers who work diligently to enhance our great community.
My thank yous also to all of you for maintaining pride in your property and the Skyway neighborhood. Your cooperation and board support is vital. Again, my appreciation for making my job as your president so rewarding.            Ed Alyn

We Need Your Input: Vote in Our Survey
For next year’s picnic, we’re considering having a jam session. Many of us play an instrument, shake maracas, or sing. We also eat. Should we go back to the bring-food-to-share days? Do you enjoy live music or should we try piped? It’s up to you and our budget. Vote in the right column, if you haven’t yet.

Flora
F  Spray trees and plants with soapy water to remove pollen and pollutants that can damage or kill your foliage.
F  Water trees 1–2 times a month to 12” below surface soil.

Fauna
F  So far this year, we’ve seen bears, bobcats, raccoons, and the ubiquitous herds of deer. Earlier in the season, Skyway Heights residents reported mountain lion sightings.
F  Have you any stories you’d like to share online? Send a short story and appropriately sized jpeg to leighwestin@gmail.com
